In 2023, the global walnut production was around 4 million tonnes, showcasing a significant increase from around 497,000 tonnes in 1961. This trend highlights a consistent upward trajectory in production over the decades. The production in 2023 is nearly eight times higher than the amount produced in 1961, reflecting a booming demand and cultivation of walnuts worldwide.

  • China remains the leading walnut producer with approximately 1.1 million tonnes.
  • The United States of America contributed around 748,000 tonnes to global production.
  • Iran produced about 381,000 tonnes of walnuts.
  • Turkey joined the top producers with 360,000 tonnes.
  • According to FAO stats, Canada does not produce walnuts and therefore is not listed among walnut-producing countries.
