Countries by Tobacco production

Tobacco, a key agricultural product, thrives in warm, sunny climates. It is mainly cultivated in regions known for their robust agricultural frameworks and favorable growing conditions. As of 2025, data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) highlights the global tobacco production in 2023 as the latest available statistics, offering insights into the agricultural landscape and economic significance of tobacco production worldwide.

Global Tobacco Production

In 2023, global tobacco production reached approximately 6 million tonnes. Since 1961, tobacco production has witnessed fluctuations, with a notable increase in production moving toward the 21st century and peaking around the 1990s. The recent trend sees a steady production with a slight decrease when compared to the peak years. From 3.57 million tonnes in 1961 to around 6 million tonnes in 2023, the change reflects evolving agricultural practices and market demands.
